It's either a former villain or, in much less common cases, a creature that had been corrupted before and never fully recovered from it. They can sense the presence (and the intensity) of ReaMi's corruption in the environment. They will alert you if there is some nearby.
Examples: Mars (never fully recovered from a corruption) and Smoke (former villain)
