~Hey guys! This is my first CCE!~ Hope you like it, Phoenix! So, the story I made up for this.... The tom on the left is called Koi, and the she-cat on the right is his sister (I REPEAT, SISTER) Canary. That's why they kinda look similar. Koi and Canary are part of a group of wild cats called the Northriver. There are two other groups surrounding them. (Koi is the main character in this story.) At this moment, Koi was just told by his sister that she and her new mate, (who's not a part of any of the groups, he's a loner. Koi didn't know about him till this moment) are moving away from the groups to stay out of harm's way if anyone found out about them. (Her mate's name is Moose. He acts like one lol he's clumsy like that. Anyways....) The groups (that's what I'm calling them for now) are an amazing place to live for a cat. But if you have a mate outside of the groups, you are punished. Severely. However, if you have a mate from another group, you are only looked down upon by the other cats, not punished. Though, this could mean that you can be injured by them if they corner you. Having a mate from another group means you will face the decision of who leaves their group and joins another, or if you must face each other on the battle field. Some find this a necessary thing and are willing to do anything to be with that cat, even if they face punishment and possible death. Therefore, Canary and Moose have to leave. And the only way to do that (without looking suspicious) is to have Koi say that Canary was killed. Canary is begging Koi to do it, and Koi senses the desperation in her eyes. He doesn't want to lose his sister, but keeping her in Northriver territory would leave her without Moose... or potentially dead. He agrees to her ask. Koi and Canary go hunting together one last time, where Koi says his goodbyes. Then, looking back with a hopeful smile on her face, Canary disappears into the thick foliage. Koi reassures himself that they had planned it all out. But something felt wrong. Koi dashes into the camp clearing, faking an out-of-breath cough. "Canary. She's gone," he pants before collapsing into sobs. And these were real. He knows he has done the right thing, but part of him still feels like he's made a huge mistake letting Canary go. "Where? What's happened?" Fox, one of the queens, questions. "We were hunting... she climbed onto a limb to catch a sparrow, and went too far. We were over the rapids... and..." Koi tries to sound like he can't finish the sentence. Tries to sound like he's overcome with grief. And he is. But not in the way they think. Gasps echo throughout the clearing. "She's dead," Lynx, Canary and Koi's foster mother utters, eyes hollow. "No. Not Canary. NO!" screams Falcon, Canary's best friend from when they were kits. "Who? Who? What?" comes the chants from the kit den, kits desperately trying to see over the queens trying to block their view. Their leader, Hawk, leaps onto the large stone towards the front of camp. His gaze is clouded. He was a younger leader, and had been appointed after Lion, their former leader, had died. Everyone knew Canary had been his apprentice. One of his favorites, although he didn't admit it. "Canary was a cat with a bright future. Her life, it seems, had just started." He gazes down. "And it ended suddenly. We will mourn the loss of her with even greater sorrow. The ceremony's tonight at dusk." With that he pads into his den, his head low, a terrible expression of pain on his face. Koi retreats to his den, felling empty and guilty. It felt terrible to lie to them like this. But it was for Canary's good. Wasn't it? ~ Yep! Cliffhanger! Mwa ha ha ha I'll tell you more later. :) Extra Stoof ~ Koi is named Koi because of his patterning. All Northriver cats are named after animals or birds. Sooooooo, yeah!
