He is a gobo that absorbs souls that come near him. He also lives in dark places, where no one can find him, nor see him. He cannot control the soul-absorbing virus, meaning he suffers from witnessing bloody deaths around him, literally. And worse yet, he is always crying, because it is hard to interact with somebody. The virus changed his appearance, making him grey and grim.
