Instructions

Here's the prologue to a fantasy story I wrote a while ago, and not sure if I should continue (i have up to 2 chapters done) thanks to @Sir_Kili for the encouragement! :) Enjoy~ "I didn't do anything wrong! You have to believe me!" My voice cracked as I pleaded my case to the only person in the whole kingdom who should have believed me. My mother. "Where were you last night?" Came the long, comfortable drawl of the queen, peering deep into my eyes. It was like my mother didn't know who I was. "I was out for a walk! I promise! I would never run away! I love it here!" My mother sighed and looked away, as if it was tiring to hear another case like she did every day... every case where the peasant pleaded and pleaded their case, but it usually ended in banishment. I had watched my mother, the queen, banish so many innocent people, that I couldn't l couldn't let the next one be me. "Yes, I know you like it here," mother said sarcastically, as she waved her hand, inviting me to look around at my handy work in the palace hall. It was covered in plants, greenery, flowers... I looked guiltily down at my brown hands, always covered in dirt from my excessive hobby. I shouldn't feel guilty for something that wasn't wrong, but I was. "That's not why you're angry though. My love for the outdoors only made me curious. I wanted to go outside the palace grounds. I wanted to see our kingdom forest," I replied firmly. Mother stood up abruptly, and strutted over to me. "In doing so, you violated our laws, kept for one thousand years. No member of the royal family leaves the castle. No exceptions. Not even for you." The queen's gaze was withering, and I was quickly reminded of how powerless I was against the ruler of Daleigh. I almost knew that I would get caught, but some part of me had wanted to take the risk. "You know what this means, don't you?" I looked up into the eyes of my mother, hoping beyond hope that these purple eyes, the mark of a Daleighan, wouldn't be the last ones I would see. "Punishment." Mother turned around to sit back in her throne. "You will be banished out of our magical Daleigh, and sent to a world with all the other exiles. Your magic will not work there." My hands shook as I gazed down at them. I would never be able to create flowers and plants at my fingertips. I would also never be able to receive my special complete power when I turned 16, which would only be a few months away. Out of instinct, -and maybe the fear of never being able to do it again- I thought, and a daffodil appeared in my palm. Mother smiled, and continued with a long drawl. "That's right. Start to get used to not being able to do magical things... Also take one last look around... Because as soon as you're banished, you won't remember a thing about this world... Although you will be given some knowledge of your new home once you are sent." "This world?" I said angrily, knowing my mother wasn't lying. The queen signaled to guards to hold my arms as I struggled. "You mean my home." Mother didn't look so sure. "Not anymore. You should have thought about disobeying me." She grabbed one of the magical stones from a pocket deep in her gown, like she had them at the ready. "I can't believe you would be so cruel." My words were angry tears as mother prepared to banish her only child to a world of exiles, for not doing anything morally wrong. My brain couldn't even function, and all my memories and things I wanted to say spilled out in the form of tears, my only defense. The queen of Daleigh looked at me once more with her cold eyes and hardened features, which I may never see again. "Have fun on Earth." She whipped the sparkly stone at me as the guards backed away to let only me receive its Magic. Swiftly, my beloved world and its harsh ruler disappeared as purple smoke filled my vision and stung my eyes. Just like that I was an Exiled.
