One of the biggest arguments for the Bible being for homosexuality is this: despite the word being in the Bible a few times, it was never in the Bible until translators put it in in 1946. Although, this isn’t the “Gotcha!” as some people think it is. The word that translates to Greek for homosexuality is Arsenokoitai. So the question is this: is it a good or bad translation? “Arsen” means man, and “Koitai” means bed, so it literally means men who bed other men. We often don’t realize that Homosexual is an ENGLISH word, and all English words were added to the Bible at some point in time. In fact, Paul had to invent the word Arsenokoitai, he got the word from 2 passages in Leviticus: 18:22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. 20:13 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. In the Hebrew version of the text, Arsen and Koitai are next to each other both times in the text. If you want to see for yourself, watch the video below, Mr. B provides an actual picture of this. But for the sake of it, let’s just say that translating Arsenokoitai is a bad translation. What follows from that? Will the Bible’s teaching on homosexuality change? No, and here’s why; no matter if Arsenokoitai is a bad translation, it is CLEARLY still described and prohibited. Just read the passages above in Leviticus, and Romans 1:26-27, even without the word arsenokoitai, it is clearly and consistently described, and labeled a sin. In conclusion, people argue that the Greek word for homosexual (arsenokoitai) is a bad translation. Clearly, it’s not. But even if it was, the Bible still clearly, and consistently describes the behavior as sinful. Look, I am not posting this to start arguments or hurt feelings, but I am posting this to get peoples attention, because people get arsenokoitai wrong, and they blame the translators for mistranslating scripture, but because of this, it just doesn’t work.
