Humans can be Stupid. Chapter One He hated every human that came near him. He lived in an alleyway, near some dumpsters that usually had some decent food in them. ‘He’ had no name, unless his mother’s owners named him before the bad men came and he got taken away. They had taken him to a strange place with awful lights and had locked him in a small cage. He had come to the conclusion that Humans were just idiots. They had taken him, the little Gerberian Shepsky, and tried to stick things in his body. So he ran away. He found this alley where he learned to fend for himself, fighting all from skunk to man. His fur was unkept and he had bald patches in many places, in others his fur was long and matted. His eyes were different colors, one brown and one blue. He was mostly black and white like his mother, but he had brown legs and a rim around the black on his short tail. He had been dozing underneath the dumpster when, quite suddenly, there was the sharp smell of a truck and man. He scampered out from under the metal with difficulty to see what was happening on his territory. It was more dumb humans. Three of them were looking his way, coming up the stone alleyway. He realized they were coming for him- the one in front was holding some meat out, another had a muzzle, and another a collar hooked to a leash, and he could tell it was an electric one according to the smell of it. He showed his teeth and crouched. The one in front bowed down and shook the meat a little, clicking his tongue. He barked and growled. The man sighed and snapped his fingers a bit, a look of hope on his face. “Come on, buddy. We ain’t gonna hurtcha- there ya go…come’ere…” He had started to act as if he wanted to come forward. He was incredibly brilliant- he could fool any man. Not too hard, they were all stupid anyway. He was an inch from the meat when he snatched it from his hand and pelleted past them. He ran out the alley, past the truck where two men stood, and down the street. He could hear the humans exclaiming and running after him. The truck had started back up and was driving after him. He was faster than the humans— much faster. They were already getting tired. He barrelled past a small pup human, almost knocking it over. He stopped and gave it a small lick before picking the meat back up and running— he stayed true to the only words he could remember from his mother. ‘Men can hurt us, so protect yourself. But never hurt a pup, it is a terrible crime to your pride of being a Gerberian Shepsky, a dog, and a faithful, strong animal. The pups are innocent, the grown are the ones who have had a past of hurt and terror.’ He could smell the men gaining on him, and the glee of running started to wear away. His muscles started to hurt, and his damaged paws were aching. Then, with no warning, something lodged itself into his neck. It was a dart— he immediately slipped unconscious.
