Instructions

The description is below, please scroll down. Thank you! Warning: Flashing images are included in this project. Disclaimer: This is not a game, fellow Scratchers. This is an animatic, otherwise known as a "choppy animation plan" or a "storyboard". For my creative piece, I decided to create an animatic about the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. I connected the main plot of the story to the main character's favourite song, Space Oddity by David Bowie. I used a variation of smooth animation, choppy animation, and slideshow formats. I only implemented half of the song, however, due to time constraints. The lack of colours is intended to make the music video raw and monochromatic. Additionally, I decided to draw August (the main character with an extraordinary face) as an astronaut for several reasons. First of all, I did not want to draw his actual face in the book, as it would be complicated and too detailed to animate. There isn't really much to reference anyway, as August does not like talking about his appearance. Aside from that, August has a passion for Star Wars and other space-related themes. He relates to "Major Tom" in the song (Space Oddity), and he would often obstruct his facial features with an astronaut helmet.
