Bought from NREX in 2016, 9308 was in OVHR's shops for thorough maintenance and a minor rebuild to give it the nose on SP tunnel motors for future plans of "restoring" ex-SP locomotives back to their original frame looks, besides the road number. However, many people wanted to see an SD45X back on the rails, so OVHR responded to their requests, and work on future OVHR SD45X 9506 began.
