Instructions

Been doing some art, decided to share it Ik I haven't done anything big since Lotus Eater (That's my most viewed project by f a r), but I've wanted to experiment a bit before doing anything else that's overly time-consuming. Anyhow, the art: 1.) Fun fact- the power went out for no reason whatsoever in the middle of this one. Guess who didn't save? Yup. Pain. Anyway, I was messing with more colorful shading and a new brush I discovered. I did a bit of redesigning with Gale, nothing big here lol 2.) I genuinely do not know what is going on here, other than that I got excited with a brush and immediately wanted to try it out. Also, I like purple. A lot. Weird light creatures ftw 3.) An attempt to deal with same face syndrome, as well as portraying different ages. Up to this point, I have never drawn glasses. They're just a pain. Honestly, the hardest part for me is having a consistent face for each character, which you'll see later on. 4.) Aaaaa wholesome Gale <3. This is my most recent piece, I just wanted to draw them haha. It's still sketchy and the hands are horrendous, but it otherwise works. Also, this is a big reason I don't make a lot of references. I keep changing character designs because I'm still learning a lot about it. 5.) Ferrin reference because he desperately needed a redesign. His old outfit, which I think I never posted, was waay too casual, especially since he's the wandering warrior kind of deal. Also, he basically never removes his mask. 6.) I drew this lady so much lol. Her name is Solar, and this is her unfinished reference. She's the sun god, and leader of the new gods. 7.) This sums her up pretty well lol. I had fun with the foreshortening, even took a few reference photos to figure out the pose. 8.) Filter because cool 9.) Aaaand this is the other side of the coin. See, she's not only the god of the sun, but also death. In her death aspect, she's not just stoic, but straight up emotionless. She doesn't have a very good handle on the domain of death, hence the ghost problem. She just does not have the power to maintain both domains, and there is nobody else to share her burden. This is what I mean when I say I have no idea how to maintain a consistent face shape. This looks like Solar's younger sister or something *concepts* So, if you wanted just finished-ish art, this is the end. But, if you're curious about my process for designing Solar, here it is! I'm mostly putting this here for myself lol. And note that this is only for her sun aspect. I'm not happy with her death aspect yet. 1.) My very first concept. I wanted to draw her sun and death aspects back-to-back, but I didn't like this design 2.) I immediately thought of stained glass, because pretty, and thought up the top three concepts. The bottom one came after I drew #3. I tried combining sun catcher and stained glass stuff with a halo and a cool dress design I saw on Pinterest. This also marks the beginning of the burned face and hands. 3.) The idea for the one on the left was like ashes spiraling up the dress? But it was too blocky. The one on the right was me trying the stained glass everywhere. I decided it was too clunky and hard to animate, but a stained glass dress is a cool concept nonetheless. 4.) This is closer to the final design. I honestly like it, but it fits better with a deity of dreams or the stars or something 5.) I tried moving the halo to make it less dream-like 6.) A bunch of concepts as I try to figure out the halo and wings. I was really starting to figure her design out at this point. I might bring back the bun, but I decided the dream/suncatcher was too much clutter and didn't fit the theme After this, I made the reference. I changed a few things as I made it, obviously, but this is my general process As for the colors, I don't have my process for that. I color over things so much that there's no reason for me to keep track of all the things I try. I just wanted bright warm colors contrasted with a dark brown
