"Well, I have pasta ready for you guys." Bill said. "Are you hungry? I prepared it the way your mom told me to, with extra salt and no butter. That IS how you like it, right? Wait, what if I got it wrong?" "I'm starving!" Emmy exclaimed. "What about you, Ash?" Mom asked. "I know that's how you like your pasta." "I'm not hungry." I said. The car pulled into the driveway, and Emmy hopped out. I started to climb out too, but my mom stopped me. "Ash, we need to have a talk." "Okay..." I said, confused. "The way you've been treating Bill is unacceptable." Mom said, "He's so desperately trying to be a part of this family, and all you've been doing in return is being cold and rude. He's just trying to be nice! Why can't you show a little respect or kindness?" I rolled my eyes. "I don't want to talk about this." I said, getting out of the car. Mom would never understand what I felt. I ran upstairs to my room and flopped down onto my bed. "Hey, Lynn?" I asked. No response. "Of course." I said to myself. "You're not here anymore." Suddenly, the doorbell rang. I heard my mom say, "Hello! Are you one of Ash's classmates?" And then-surprise, surprise- I heard ANDREW WALKER say "Yeah, my name is Andrew. I was wondering if Ash was home? We're working on a project together, and she's been neglecting it a lot." I shot up. Of course! I totally forgot about the biology project when I found Lynn! "Oh, don't worry, she's upstairs in her room, probably moping or talking to herself again." My mom said. "Go up the stairs, take a right down the hallway, and her room is the third door on the right. It's the one with the big "ASH'S ROOM: KEEP OUT!" sign on it." "Sounds like Ash." Andrew laughed, starting up the stairs. He opened my door. "Hey, Ash." He said. "Hey, Andrew." I said, "What's up?" "Well, you've been acting kind of funny lately." Andrew said, "I mean, you always act funny, and that's cool and sweet, but you've just been...like extra closed-off recently. You're not talking to anyone-even Bee. You're totally ignoring the due date for our project- that's why I'm here by the way- and you're acting like no one else exists. What's up with that?" "Nothing." I said. "Go away." "Well...the due date for our project is kinda tomorrow." Andrew said. "And we're not done." I groaned, but started working. Before I knew it, hours had passed and our project was done. "Wow." Andrew said. "It's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to something. You're so talented." And then I...I...well, I blushed. "Thanks." I said. "No prob." Andrew replied. "Well, it's getting kind of late, I should be going now..." "Wait!" Busted out of my mouth before I could stop myself. Andrew turned around. "Do you like...want to watch a movie or something?" My brain groaned as I said this. Way too cliche, Ash. But my heart was beating, telling me I made the right decision. Andrew smiled. "Which one?" We settled on The Day my Braces came Alive, a true classic. We screamed and laughed together until the movie was over. "It's been so long since I've seen that movie!" Andrew laughed, "It was even better than I remembered." I smiled. "Thanks for coming over." I said. "No, thank YOU." Andrew said. "I'll...see you tomorrow at school?" "You know it." I said. As Andrew walked out the door, right on cue, Emmy bounded in. As soon as she saw Andrew she looked at me. "ASHHHHHHHH?" She gasped, "DO YOU HAVE A BOOOOOOOOOOOYFRIEND?????????" I turned red as a beet. "What?!" I said, "No! Of course not!" "MOOOM!!!" Emmy yelled, "ASH HAS A BOYYYYFRIEND!!" "I DO NOT!" I yelled back. Emmy grinned. I laughed and started to chase her.
