Instructions

Press a button to slowly morph one egg planet into the other. Note hybrid intermediate, half Jupiter half earth. Recently discovered egg-shaped planets include WASP 12b (discovered 2008). Haumea, discovered 2004, is an egg-shaped dwarf planet. Spacebar to make buttons disappear.

Description

What planet would make the best Easter egg? I made planet eggs with Blender applying Nasa maps to spheres and stretching into egg shape. There are some known egg-shaped planets. WASP-12b orbits so close to its sun that gravity slowly tears it apart. A year there is only 1.1 of our days. It's a huge planet whose gravity causes enormous tidal forces stretching the planet into the shape of an egg. Haumea, is an egg-shaped dwarf planet in our solar system, beyond Neptune. If a mass of matter is big enough, gravity forms it into a sphere. Haumea is big enough for a spherical shape to form. Yet it formed an egg-shape instead, likely due to it's very fast rotation, a full rotation every 4 hours. It rotates along the shorter axis, like an egg spinning on a table, so fast that it stretched out.
