John served this line until 1946 when it closed do to being worn out. John was sold to the Lincaster Military Light Railway along with a set of 5 slate wagons, a goods van, 2 passenger coaches and a brake van. A railway used to train British soldiers to operate and maintain steam locomotives. The line was constantly changed and moved. However in 1959 it was decided the light railway was not necessary and so all the stock was auctioned off. John was sold to a muesum where he was displayed and fired up once or twice a year. The museum maintained John to a very high standard making him perfect for tourist railway service. The Joon Riverside Railway was looking for another engine to use on the tourist trains, John was in good condition and so was purchased. John became JRRY 11 and received buffers. Today John is usually found on station pilot duties or smaller tourist trains
