Instructions

Space In 1928 The Lake Superior Northern railroad's passenger service motive power was in a dire state, Trains were usually double headed or even triple headed by 4-6-0, a lone USRA pacific was the roads most modern power being built in 1920. New engines were needed, Baldwin locomotive works constructed 10 heavy pacifics from 1929-1930. The pacifics handled the top of the line trains and helped fixed the motive power issue. Eventually they got kicked from the top of the line express in 1938 by new 4-8-2 mountain types. In 1952 The LSN decided to dieselize, the Pacifics were moved to freight work before slowly being scrapped one by one. 229 was kept as a backup engine. in 1958 the railroads superintendent saw 229 resting in the Thunder Falls roundhouse and had the idea to run a steam excursion program. 229 Hauled the first excursion on September 1st 1958. in 1966 the excursion program was ended. 229 was sold into private ownership and was moved to Allentown PA. in 1968 229 was sold to a second private owner where the engine as moved to the Susquehanna River Railroad Muesum where it ran two excursions, 229 was heavy and damaged the SRRM rail. The 229 was put on display in 1971 at SRRM, 229 is still their today.
