It all started when I was trying to start up a story-related project on Scratch, The Scratch Avengers. I was trying to gain inspiration from other popular story-centric Scratch projects. There… were other popular story-centric scratch projects… right? If there was, they were buried really deep. I did some more digging, and I found two things. Although there isn’t technically a Scratch algorithm pushing out certain content to only certain users, there is a sort of formula for success. Low-Quality platformers and rant animations seemed to take center stage. But it feels like Scratch projects that are really innovative don’t get the recognition they deserve. Case in point, a user named @cagboo. A professional with cloud variables and coding on scratch, who is able to produce some of the best projects I’ve seen on the platform. He joined like, 5 years ago, and he only has 350 followers. That’s about how many I got on my old acc for posting a stupid puzzle project. So, I’m trying to make a change. Scratch Party is an attempt to make something on Scratch that goes beyond just one project, and provides an entertaining competitive experience, while also providing ideas and resources necessary for people to create their own events. Large-scale, Scratch-wide live events that happen once, and bring the community together for something fun. This isn’t just me trying to throw myself a birthday party on scratch and rig it so I win ((it is tho) jk jk). This is me trying to teach people to think outside the box. To collaborate, to play. To teach people that you don’t need extensive knowledge on cloud variables to create an online game with. All you need is an account, a will, and an idea in your head.
