space Built in 1893 by the Rogers Locomotive and Machine Works of Paterson ,New Jersey for the Western Pennsylvania & Ohio Railroad as #2 . 2 was named "J.M. Welton" after the railroads financial advisor. The WP&O which stretched for 17 miles from New Castle, PA to Boardman OH closed in 1910. 2 was sold to the Swatara Creek & Berks County in 1914 where it was renumbered to 8. 8 served well but became a bit under powered and it was decided to rebuild it in 1920. The extensive rebuild included a new boiler, new wheels, new running gear, modifying the frame heavily and making the coal bunker larger. 8 would be sold for scrap in 1946 as the frame started developing stress fractures. The engine was cut up in Harrisburg, PA
