1 2 Space Built in 1924 for the Swatara Creek & Berks County railroad the two 2-8-0 were assigned to coal trains from Jonestown Pa to Reading Pa. 16 & 17 were the first engines on the SC&BC roster to use the "Simple" paint scheme for the railroad. The engines were the two second most powerful engines on the line, the most powerful being 2-10-0 15. 17 was running in reverse at speed when the tender derailed and skidded along the ballast, the engine and the rest of the train stayed on the track. The derailment meant the engines were ban from running in reverse at speed. In 1951 16 & 17 were moved to SC&BC north reading yard where 16 was converted into a industrial boiler to lease out to company's. 17 was stripped down of piping and other usable parts, the good pieces were put on 16. 17 had it's cab boarded up and the engine was slowly dismantled and scrapped. 16 was leased to 3 companies when in 1955 cracks were discovered in the boiler and frame and the engine was cut up
