ok hi hello This is an entry but also a discussion about designing a character for another person. And since I'm sick rn this is simple and quick to do. First thing I did was stare at the Fitd refs found here: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/780521023/ Doing research on the comic/artist you are designing for is in no way something that you need to do but it is helpful. So i went in looking for design information on the Fitd characters. Firstly what is the most complex design and what is the least complex design. That way I have a complexity range. Also it gives me an understanding on how Link prefers to draw his characters. FitD character notes -Characters don't tend to have fluff on the top of their heads except in rare situations -Ears are triangles sticking directly off the top of the head -Eyes are 1 solid color. eye color is also used for dialogue (Important for later) -Pelt colors consist on 1 to 4 colors but they try to keep it to 2-3 at the most with Mallowstar being an exception with 4 colors -Pelt patterns are simple shapes and kept to a minimum -side fur is also simple, varying in pointedness, amount and length but normally kept between 1 and 3 points. Now I have the constraints for my character design I need to look for what the current characters don't have. That way, my character design can fill a gap and hold uniqueness in it's own right among the other characters. This means looking at what I can do to design a character that looks good and feels fresh while being comfortable for the other artist to draw. Design traits that the current FitD characters that aren't common are -Large/tall ears -Folded ears -Large poofy manes -Large low sweeping tail -Legging markings -Colorpoint markings -short stubby tail -classic torti colors -Blue caramel colors I also needed an eye color. Since Link uses eye color for character text, it wound be a good idea to find an eye color that not other character had and would be readable on both light and dark backgrounds. In my case, I chose a darker pink. ok now that I have my basics. time to design the character. First I drew them in my style. I decided on blue and caramel colors cause they're pretty, with legging like markings, a mask face marking, a flat sweeping tail, and a poofy mane, and some tall and large ears. All together making a simple, yet pleasing to look at design. Then I attempted to draw in Link's art style to see how it would translate. I'm pretty happy with how this came out.
