At a young age he was thrown out by his mother for his odd markings, but was taken in by a kind stray cat. She had mangy fur, a missing eye, and a hard exterior, but she taught Tempest how to survive and the importance of being kind to others. She eventually d!ed of sickness, and when Tempest was burying her, he found a raincoat that had been blown near the grave. Below it was a collection of flowers, which he laid on the grave. The raincoat became a symbol of comfort to Tempest, and he wore it everywhere.
