Space Built in 1887 by the Rhode island locomotive works for the under construction Mystic Northern railroad, the engine was used at first in construction of the line and later road duties. by 1913 the engine was still working but was showing its age. 1 was fitted with electric appliances in 1918 to comply with new laws. in 1919 1 was reassigned to switching work in mystic. The engine was known to ride roughly and easily derail on the curves. One cold winter day in 1921 1 was switching, the crew was talking with their conductor as they were on break. the engineer leaned on the reverser and it flung forward the engineer fell forwards slapped the throttle and then fell backwards out of the cab. The engineer was just bruised however 1 ran off and accelerated quickly, the engine hit a curve tipped on it's left side and smashed into a brick wall destroying it's top half. the engine was pulled from the wall and was cut up into pieces. the boiler became a steam launch (The steam launch later crashed into a harbor wall and was scrapped) the remaining parts in good condition were cut for scrap in New Haven Ct
