Krisen returned to Yinfen and entered the Jolly Hen. He walked through the building and headed towards Ikar. "It's gone." "Good." "Where's the money?" There was silence. "Ikar, where is my money?" The short man grunted "We don't... have it, 2,000 is too much." Krisen growled "You should have told me originally.” Krisen hesitated “Pay me 1,000 now. I'll return in a few months. You better have my money then." Ikar hurried out of the tavern. Krisen ordered a drink, leant against the bar, lifted the tankard and downed the beer. Then set the tankard down and let out a deep sigh. "What's the matter with you, hm?" A slim young woman sat to Kristen's left. She had shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes. Krisen grunted "You're a quiet one, Witcher." "I am." He said bluntly. "Is it really worth 5,000 Gulden to chase a monster away?" Krisen stayed silent "Well?" There was a shout from a drunkard behind them. "Yes, it is. Forcing a monster to flee is far harder than killing it." "Hm..." There was another pause, "Do you ever find being a witcher lonely?" "No." "Hmmm... Why don't you travel with someone?" Krisen ignored her and stood, then walked away to his room. He dreamt. He was on a large galleon. The sun was bright. The sea glistened. There was his mother and father, at least the figures he remembered them as stood silhouetted against the afternoon sun. A storm was brewing to the east. Suddenly the sky opened and released a torrent of rain. The ship swayed. The crew shouted. Krisen could only watch as a bolt of lightning struck the mast and threw his parents into the sea. He woke up with a start, it was still dark. He walked over to the water bowl and then doused his face. The tavern was empty. Just the barkeep stood, cleaning a tankard. "Want anything, Witcher?" "An ale." The barkeep poured a tankard of ale and handed it to the Witcher who downed it. "Ikar left this and told me to give it to you." The barkeep took out a pouch. Inside was a large amount of Gulden. Krisen thanked him and then left headed for the stables. Jackel was there waiting. Krisen led the black stallion to the edge of town before mounting him. He flicked the Raines and they rode off down the dirt road.
