Instructions

Guys, everyone in the comments seems to be misunderstanding what I was trying to say, so let me clarify: It is impolite to recolor when an artist didn't ask you to, so generally avoid that, maybe? I guarantee you that there are artists on here that are 100% okay with recolors, you should probably recolor their art instead. To artists: Maybe it isn't that great to send a mob of people at recolors and scream at them? I've seen that happen, and it's not cool. Ask POLITELY for them to take it down, instead. Something that artists tend to misunderstand is that while yes, it is unfair and frankly annoying that you can't have remix permissions or anything similar to it, it is still against the community guidelines to scream at people that recolored your artwork. And if you don't care about THAT, it's just rude? //also, like, you are in no position to argue that you can't get onto any other art site if you're 12 and lied about your age on deviantart smh -- How many times have people been calling out recolors? Many, and it's justified. However, sometimes you are going too far. (Deleted. Don't use CC to be annoying. Please.) Sometimes, though, we artists do cross a line that makes us bullies. We should all just remember these two words: COMMON COURTESY. And that the recolorers are people too, regardless of our scratch politics (because honestly, it is political by this point). With us or against us mentality is rampant here on both sides, and either way it is unhealthy. Think before you speak. Are you asking nicely for them to make a few more changes or take it down, or are you calling them a horrible person and basically screaming at them? Are you patronizing them or reasoning with them? Recolorers: Common courtesy. It's legal to not give a tip to your server at a restaurant, but you do it anyway, right? Why. Because it's the polite thing to do. Scratch wasn't designed as an art site, but people still post art. Treat it with respect. And the truth? You'll get more followers and more recognition if you make your own art. Your art may be ugly (in your opinion) now, but it will get better if AND ONLY IF you practice and make an effort for it to do so. Recoloring is /pointless/. It may be legal, but honestly, what benefit are you getting from it? Absolutely none, and you are only going to get called out for it.

Description

Also, this goes for fake quitting. It is cruel to the scratchers that care about you, and yes, you'll get follows and fanart, but it's shallow. I know the difference between real and fake leaving. I don't comment on fake projects. It's horrid to report people for saying that they are engaging in self harm and have depression. We want scratch to be a safe place for them, and that is not helping any. "What about the 5 year olds?" Honey, scratch is made for 8 year olds up. 8 year olds can watch PG movies, which have tackled issues like depression and loss. And maybe, just maybe, they need to know about these things to be aware of them, because 8 year olds are also capable of these things, There are some things that we shouldn't have to shield. Don't attack someone for their religion or lack of religion. Or race. Or gender identity or sexuality. Just don't. It's not cool. And one last thing, the community guidelines are very, very vague. They don't help anything. Have these instead: https://scratch.mit.edu/terms_of_use/ . Who's to bet I'll get an alert? Thanks for the front page, guys.
