I sank down onto the mattress in my cell, the conversation with Jessica spinning through my mind. The amount of guilt I felt at the fact that Shadow’s turning was /my/ fault was almost immeasurable. However, most of my mindspace was occupied by one single topic. Why did Jessica want to be a werewolf? And why did /I/ have to be the one to do it? A movement caught my eye at the front of the cell. I stood up and grabbed the sheet of paper. I sat down at the table and read Chaiyn’s note. /Are you okay? What did she want?/ I picked up the pen and scrawled my reply. /I’m fine. She gave me four options for how we’d go free. Deadline to chose is May’s full moon./ I teleported the paper over, and it came back a few seconds later. /What were the options?/ /Sit here and rot; don’t give any answers. Tell her everything and I might go free but no one else will. Come up with a different option, one that pleases her more than the other three, and we might all go free./ /What was the fourth one, Wolf?/ I hesitated, my pen hovering over the paper cautiously. I knew nothing good would come out of being secretive, though, so I continued writing. /Bite her. Make her a werewolf and we’d all go free./ /Wait, what? Why?/ /She wouldn’t say. She also wouldn’t listen to reason. I tried to talk her out of it but she’s too far gone./ /You can’t do the fourth option, Wolf. Once you bite someone, you won’t be able to resist stopping./ /I know that, but I think I have to do that one. There’s no way I’m going down without a fight or leaving here and leaving you guys. And there’s nothing we can come up with that she’ll like more than the fourth one./ /Not with that attitude. Wolf, you’re not doing the fourth option unless you absolutely have to. We’ve got until May, right? We’ll figure something out./ /What if we don’t?/ /Don’t get pessimistic on me now, Wolf. That’s my job./ I looked up from the paper and met his eyes, smiling slightly. He returned the smile and teleported another sheet of paper over. I realized we’d reached the bottom of the previous one. /Anyways, try to get some sleep. I heard we’ll have free hours tomorrow, which theoretically means we’ll be able to talk. We’ll figure something out. Trust me./ /Okay./ I had no choice. But the truth was, I did trust Chaiyn. I teleported the paper and walked over to the mattress. I laid down and stared at the ceiling. I don’t know how I managed to fall asleep, but somehow I did.
