The M1114 is based on the M1113 expanded capacity HMMWV. This chassis along with more powerful engine allowed to handle add-on armor. The M1114 is fitted with add-on armor kit which provides protection against 7.62 mm armor-piercing rounds and artillery shell splinters. It withstands mine blasts equivalent to 5.4 kg of TNT at the front and equivalent to 1.8 kg of TNT at the rear.
