Eugh, science. Personally, Rei’s /least/ favorite subject. She broke the laws of physics—daily— and yet she still had to memorize every single one of them. It didn’t help that the professor was a monotonous /bore/. Her mind often wandered in that class, and today was no different. Except today, her gaze wandered across the room. All the way to the other end of the classroom, over the heads of the rest of the idiots in this school. …him. Sait was just the same as always— weirdly tall, moody, and unfairly cute— Uh. Cutting. Cutting with his glare. That’s what she was thinking. He was just so… strange. So distant. Different. The way his eyes seemed to become almost maroon instead of their usual brown when he was angry, the way he adjusted his seating position in agitation so often, his obvious avoidance of her… all of it only grew her intrigue. So, today, she’d come up with a plan. She had a hunch, of course-- but she sincerely hoped she wasn’t wrong. Even though she still hated him (obviously), she just wanted to be sure. No harm in trying. …unless she was wrong, in which case she’d probably dig herself a hole in embarrassment. The minutes ticked away, seemingly taking hours just to get to halfway through the class. She glanced back over at Sait, once more taking in his appearance and mannerisms. Something was agitating him. That much was obvious-- he was shifting in his seat, glancing towards the door, gritting his teeth-- more and more signs pointing to frustration. Would he leave halfway through class? It certainly wouldn’t be the first time. He had a funny habit of storming out of class like a three-year-old. Amusing, really. Although, despite his agitated tapping on the desk, he remained firmly in his seat. She shrugged lightly, turning her attention back to the professor, resting her chin on the back of her hand. Her other hand rested on the desk, absentmindedly tapping a pencil against the wood, producing a satisfying ‘click’ every time she hit it. And finally, after what felt like an eternity, the bell rang, dismissing the class. Sait bolted out of the room almost immediately, she noticed-- at least he had the decency to take his backpack with him. She slung her own bag over her shoulder, zipping her hoodie halfway in the process. She normally left her light blue hoodie unzipped over her black tanktop, but she had a feeling she’d want a bit more protection for what would come next. As she exited the classroom, her pale blue gaze skimmed the hallway in vain hope that he would be there, but when he wasn’t, she let out a disappointed sigh. Of course it wouldn’t be that easy. She pushed open the door, cringing at the sunlight for a moment before shaking her head and walking through the crowd of excited students, attempting to hide her distaste. Everyone in this school was so idiotic, honestly. Sure, it’s nice that school was out, but they just got overly excited about everything. However, she wasn’t joining the crowd to rush to the coffee shop, or the diner, or wherever they were going. Rather, she walked along the wall of the school, her footsteps quiet on the grass as she went. “C’mon, don’t turn out normal /now/.” She muttered under her breath. She listened for any hint of a person nearby-- specifically, Sait. And she got it. Rei turned a corner, finding him, arms crossed over his chest, slouching over, and… evidently attempting to hide something. His shirt was much more ripped than it had been fifteen minutes ago, for one. He met her gaze, a low growl escaping his throat. “What do you want?” He grumbled, obvious annoyance in his tone. She wordlessly pulled out a plastic bag from her backpack, holding it by two fingers-- almost teasingly. The contents of the plastic bag were… a bit disturbing. It was a sandwich-- with raw meat in the middle, the slices of bread soaked with a deep crimson. His eyes immediately went to the plastic bag, his expression suddenly hungry as he took a couple steps closer to her. “...is that a--” “Bl00d sandwich?” She finished, a small grin growing on her face. “Mhm.” He instantly reached for the bag, but she snatched it back before he could take it. He wasn’t getting off that easily. “Not yet, Sir Edgeyman. First you gotta answer-- HEY!!” She indignantly said as he just… took it. WIthout letting her finish. He tore open the bag, taking a bite of the sandwich as if it was the first time he’d eaten in weeks. Which, if her theory was correct, that probably wasn’t too far from the truth. After (inhumanly quickly) finishing the sandwich, he glanced back at her-- seemed as if he’d forgotten the fact that she was, in fact, still there. She raised a brow at him, her expression only sliiiightly amused. “You done?” “...what was that for?” He reluctantly muttered. “Well, /originally/, I was gonna use it to force you to answer my questions, but now I suppose I’ll just ask.” She sighed. “I won’t dance around the question-- are you human? (cont in notes-)
Because it sure doesn’t seem like it.” He paused. (Nice, Rei! Finally got him to think for a second.) He raised a brow at her, almost in disbelief. “I could ask the same of you, couldn’t I?” That.. that made her consider. She’d /thought/ she’d done a good job of hiding her… stranger aspects, but… maybe he was just… observant? “You only eat specific foods at lunch, you keep acting as though you know more about the world than the rest of the school, you always cover that strange birthmark on your shoulder, and you--” He started, counting on his fingers. “Okay, I get the point.” She cut in, a slight pink tint coming over her face. She really had thought she’d been more discreet than that! Why had he even noticed?? How??? ..questions for another time. “But you’re one to talk-- you leave halfway through the day all the time, you’re hiding in the dark, you always rip your shirts in conveniently the same place, you shift in your seat when you’re--” Aaaand now that was her time to stop. Did she really want to admit that she’d noticed /that much/ about him? Probably not. She bit her lip, refusing to say any more. She looked back up at him, his brow raised in… sarcasm? Why was his ̶a̶t̶t̶r̶a̶c̶t̶i̶v̶e̶ face so hard to read?? “Oh, please go on.” He drily replied, which earned a huff from her as she crossed her arms over her chest. “You get the idea.” She grumbled, avoiding his gaze as a light tinge of pink came over her cheeks. He sighed, shaking his head. “Well, I think we’ve come to a conclusion. Both of us are bad at hiding our inhumanity.” “I never said /I/ wasn’t human.” She pointed out. “And neither did I.” He shot back. “Well… you did just eat a raw meat sandwich dripping with bl00d. That’s as good as admitting it.” She shrugged, a small smug grin coming to her face. Logic. “You somehow knew how to make a bl00d sandwich. Most humans don’t know how to do that.” He replied. …He had her there. She faltered for a moment, trying to come up with some way to prove him wrong, but… to no avail. “Ha! That’s what I thought.” He smirked, smug confidence dripping from his tone. “You aren’t human.” He teased. “Neither are you!” She insisted, meeting his gaze once again. “You are so obviously some form of inhuman that I only had to know you for less than a week to figure it out!” “Well, then, Rei Marek, it’s only a matter of time before I find out what you are.” His tone was barely threatening-- no, much more snide and confident. He took long strides past her, waiting until he reached the last bit of darkness in the corner behind the school before turning back to face her once more. “I’m not as dumb as you think I am, Sait. I’ll figure you out too.” She warned. “I look forward to it.” And, with that final statement, he left her alone in the darkness. …oh no. She was most definitely crushing on him. …this… was going to be a problem. ---- fun fact-- this was untitled 69 xD hope you enjoyed this small oneshot of rei being an idiot! :D sait belongs to @Brainy__Brawler ! rei belongs to me! :D
