Instructions

This is all 100% true and happened to me last night! _________________________________________ Last night, I was trying to sleep, because, you know, it was Christmas Eve! Santa would come! I was in my bed, my dad was sound asleep, and my mom was downstairs, turning off her computer and preparing to come up. Then I heard a loud /scratch, scratch, scratch/, like something trotting on the roof. My first thought was, /Santa/! But then I remembered that Santa wouldn't come while I was awake. My second thought was, /Squirrel/! But then, I heard another sound. The floors in the hallway upstairs, right outside of my room, make a weird sound when someone steps on them. I heard /that/ sound. So of course, I freaked out. It wasn't my dad. It wasn't my mom. I was having a lot of jumbled thoughts. Should I scream? No, it would hear me, and might attack me! Should I run? No, same fate as screaming. I just hid under my blanket, scared out of my mind and convinced that I might die at any moment. The scratching and footsteps came on and off, until they finally stopped altogether. Terrified, I slowly got out of my bed and went downstairs, where my mom was. My mom was slightly annoyed that I had come down, and told me, "[My name], if you don't sleep, Santa won't come!" "Mom," I whispered. "There was a person upstairs." I told my mom everything, and she exclaimed, "That must have been Santa!" Also, the cookies were gone. Santa ate them. So, I guess the scratchy sounds were his reindeer, and the footsteps were Santa. But when I first heard all of this, I seriously thought that someone broke into the house. I seriously thought that I might die at any moment. I was never that scared in my entire life.
