Hope you like it! xx, Magic Previous: this is the first one Next: none yet! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx CHAPTER ONE Serena looked nervously up at the sky. Tonight was the night of a blood moon, a rare event. On this night, a teenage girl would be sacrificed to the pit, which was a large round hole in the middle of the village. A god named Valorin resided on this pit, and he was a fearsome one. When the village Serena lived in was newly built, the god approached the village, demanding the life of one teenage girl every time the moon turned red and the wolves cried out, and saying that in return for the girl, he would bring the village peace and prosperity. Those living in the village at that time agreed to his demands, fearing that it would bring about their downfall if they disobeyed him. So that was how it was. The village had been named Valorina, after the god. And tonight was the blood moon, which meant that inside of the pit, the blood of the sacrificed girl would be spilled. Serena turned paler at the thought. There was a real possibility of her dying tonight, and Serena didn’t want to think about that. So she braided her long auburn hair, flopped down on her bed, and fell asleep, completely forgetting to take off her long pink dress. When Serena woke, she was outside. Briefly she wondered what was happening, her being outside in the cold, frigid night, but when she came to her senses, she realized that she was strapped to a wooden board, her legs and arms fastened tightly. Serena knew suddenly what was happening. She was about to die, because she had been chosen as the sacrifice to Valorin. Inside of the dark pit, she could hear the deep breathing of the god, patiently waiting for the sacrifice. The people holding the board she lay upon positioned her so that she would fall headfirst into the pit when they dropped her. But Serena had a secret. She whispered to one of the men holding her over the pit and a dazed expression appeared in his face. He gently placed Serena at the edge of the pit, whispered to another person, and jumped straight into the pit. The god roared furiously, sensing that the sacrifice was neither a girl, nor a teenager. Pretty soon everyone was jumping into the pit, leaving Serena in the middle of the chaos. Suddenly a villager saw her. “Look! There she is! The witch! Come to tear apart our families!” The remaining villagers began chasing Serena, and shooting arrows at her, which were terribly off-target, mostly hitting trees around 6 feet away from Serena. But eventually the chasing ceased, and Serena was alone in the cold, quiet woods. Nobody went into the woods. In fact, it was forbidden to enter. But Serena had been in the woods plenty of times, to meet with the others. But this time, when Serena entered the woods, they seemed ominous, as if the entire forest was holding its breath, waiting for something to happen. There was only a slight noise every so often, such as the rustle of branches or leaves on a tree. Suddenly she heard a twig snap behind her. Serena looked down at the path she stood on, overgrown with weeds, but she saw no sticks or branches. She looked back. Something caught her eye. A pair of beady, glinting eyes. A wolf sauntered out of the shadows, toward her. Serena stepped back, only to hear the growl of another wolf behind her. Serena looked around for an escape, but wolves surrounded her from every angle. They got steadily closer, until there was barely room for Serena to breathe. Only Millimeters stood between her and the hungry wolves. Serena’s eyes widened. Not because she was afraid, but because she knew that they knew. The others, that is. The fiercest looking wolf slowly walked toward her, teeth reflecting the red light of the moon. The animal morphed suddenly into a beautiful woman, with jet-black hair and violet colored eyes. Her black gown fluttered around her, the faint light shining through the trees illuminating her pale face. Serena hung her head. “I know.” She said, in a voice barely audible. “But I had to. I just… I just didn’t want to die for that village. For all I care, they can die!” Serena had a slightly wild look in her piercing green eyes. The woman stalked toward Serena, their noses almost touching. “I know what you think, Serena. But now you can never return. To the people of that village, if there are any left after what you’ve done, you are a witch. Which, I guess is true now.” The other wolves morphed into people, and many had disapproving looks on their faces. “ I suppose there’s only one thing to do,” said a light and fluttery voice that belonged to a woman in a white cloak and gown. She unclasped the cloak, letting her blond hair ripple
down her body. “She must come with us. Permanently.” “But she can’t!” Said a voice that sounded stronger than the rest. “She has not come of age yet! The girl is only sixteen, and she must be eighteen before we can induct her into the society!” A woman wearing a gray cloak stepped out of the shadows. HOPE YOU LIKE THE BOOK SO FAR!!!
