“Echokit!” Icekit yowled. She prepared herself to jump, but Windkit nipped her. “I won’t lose both sisters instead of one,” he hissed. Icekit shrugged and made the heroic but idiotic choice to jump in. She gasped for air and pushed with the current, allowing it to carry her toward Echokit. As soon as she caught up with Echokit, she grabbed her sister’s scruff and realized she was unconscious. I can’t save Echokit if I lose my strength, Icekit decided. She saw a spot up ahead where the current calmed. She waited until she was in that area, then pushed sideways to the shore. Finally, gasping through her teeth, she pulled herself and Echokit up onto the shore. “Icekit! Echokit!” she heard Songcloud yowl. Icekit pulled herself slightly farther up the shore, then let go of Echokit. “I’m here!” she called exhaustedly. Songcloud and Windkit came running into view. “Oh, thank ShineClan you’re okay!” Songcloud said, licking Echokit. “Echokit was unconscious,” Icekit growled. “I hope you have your answer now.” Songcloud looked confused. “What are you talking about?” she asked. “We heard you with Irismoon the other day, in the den,” Windkit confessed. “That’s why we’ve been doing everything we could to hold off the test.” “Well, Echokit swam well for a 2 moon old kit,” Songcloud said cheerfully. “That means she’s your sister!” “Hooray,” Icekit said, not enthusiastically. “Now let’s get her back to camp and see if she’ll survive.” Songcloud carried Echokit back to camp with an extremely unhappy pair of kits trailing behind, one of them soaked to the bone. When they arrived back in camp, Greenwing approached them. “How come Echokit’s wet and unconscious?” he asked. “How come Icekit’s also wet?” Songcloud looked at her other kits, warning them not to say what happened. “Echokit accidentally fell in the stream, and Icekit jumped in and pulled her out,” Songcloud said, her voice muffled by Echokit’s body. Greenwing turned to Icekit. “That was brave of you,” he said. “You’ll make a good warrior.” They continued and entered the medicine den, where Irismoon was sorting herbs. “No, that one’s too dry…” she muttered. Then she saw Echokit. “What happened?” “Well, your idea worked,” Songcloud said. “Echokit can swim well for a two-moon old kit.” Irismoon’s tail twitched. “Well, leave your daughters with me,” she said. “Both of them. We need to get Icekit warmed up.” Icekit lay in the medicine den, waiting to be excused. Irismoon pressed on Echokit’s chest until she woke up, coughing up water. “Echokit!” Icekit leaped up in excitement. “What… what happened?” Echokit asked, slurring slightly. “I thought I was dead….” “Songcloud threw you in the stream. You passed the test. And nearly drowned.” Icekit gave a ‘this is your fault’ look to Songcloud, who was walking outside the den. “I’m so cold!” Echokit whined. “You knew about the test?” Irismoon asked. “Remember that private conversation you and Songcloud had? We heard that.” A light brown tabby poked his head into the room. “Hey Irism- Wait.” He looked at Icekit and Echokit. “Why are there two sopping wet kits in here?” “Songcloud tossed Echokit into the stream and I saved her,” Icekit explained. “I think I was going to die,” Echokit added helpfully. “Irismoon, you don’t just do tests on kits to see if they are part of the prophecy!” the tom said, guessing exactly what happened. “I’ll be right there!” “Can we help?” Icekit asked. Everleaf twitched his tail, an internal struggle clear on his face. “Okay, you can, Icekit,” Everleaf said finally. “But Echokit nearly died and probably shouldn’t be jumping around trying to help. Grab borage and thyme, I’ll get the burnet.” “Borage is the blue star-shaped flower, and thyme is the stalk,” Echokit said. “If I can’t leave, then I’ll help by staying still.” Icekit grabbed the flowers and the stalk of thyme and trotted behind Everleaf as they went to the nursery. She saw a stick and picked it up too, as she remembered Songcloud having a stick when Echokit was born. When they got to the nursery, Flamesight was panting. Windkit was there too. Irismoon was feeling Flamesight’s stomach. “What are you doing here, Windkit?” Icekit asked. “I want to meet the new kits! Don’t you?” he replied. “Not my first priority.” Flamesight cried out in pain. “The first one is coming!” Don't any of y'all get attached to Larchpelt, he's a biiiiig jerk Previous: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/777611106 First: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/737784560/ Next: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/777614083
