My entry! ___________________________________________ It was raining. Again. For the past three weeks the window of Luke Dezmarko’s bedroom had been hammered by rain, and with the cold air creeping in, Luke had found it hard to concentrate on anything except staying in bed. He had always hated when the weather was cold and stormy, but this amount of rain was ridiculous. No-one had ever seen so much of it. Local meteorologists said it had to stop soon, but they had been saying this for a week now, and Luke wasn’t sure by now if the meteorologists actually knew anything about the weather. For one thing, they had also predicted a month of hot sunshine. The rain pouring down for so long had caused a street near his school to flood, and school had been closed just in case. Luke was stuck at home almost all day, without much to do. Luke was starting to get extremely bored. For want of something to do, Luke had started to explore his grandparents’ house. He was staying with his grandparents while his mother had gone on a long holiday to Fiji, probably to escape the rain and enjoy some sun. Luke had never been to his grandparents’ house before, because it was so far away. His grandparents often visited, but he rarely came to their place. He started to count every room. There were a lot of rooms. Most of them were hardly ever used, as his grandparents mostly stayed on the bottom floor. The top floor was covered in cobwebs and dust, and was used mostly for storing things. His grandparents had warned Luke not to go upstairs, because of spiders, but he had been staying for so long with so little to do that he had gone upstairs anyway. He found many interesting things in the rooms, such as an old grand piano that had partly collapsed, several creepy oil paintings that always seemed to stare at him wherever he was, a huge box labelled “fragile” that turned out to just be full of spiders, and for some reason there was a ships wheel, painted red, amongst a pile of wood that could have been a small rowing boat once. In one small box in the corner, he found a jigsaw puzzle, and, by the light of an old battery lamp, he started to assemble it. After a while, he got distracted by a door he hadn’t been through yet. Luke walked up to it, and saw a sign hanging on the doorknob, which said, JOHN'S ROOM. KEEP OUT. Luke read the sign several times to be sure. This had been his dad’s room when he was a child. His dad, who had disappeared one night on the way to maritime beach when Luke was three years old. No-one had ever heard from John Dezmarko again. Luke carefully pushed the door of his dad’s room open wider. It was not locked. He felt as though he should probably ask for permission from his grandparents before entering, but he knew they probably would just refuse to let him in. Slowly and carefully, he walked into the room and turned on the light. It was a larger room than it looked on the outside, but it was still very cluttered. Strange objects and ornaments covered shelves, walls and hung from the roof. A small bed lay in the corner, next to a desk with a large chair, and a cupboard sat slightly ajar in another corner. On the desk was a pile of books, and a toolkit sat by an electronic circuit that his father had probably made himself. Luke’s mother was always saying that his father had been a talented engineer. Like the rest of the house, the wallpaper was peeling in places, and cracks ran along the windowsill. Everything in the room was caked in layers of dust. Luke wondered why the room still had all this stuff in it, and why his grandparents hadn’t cleaned it when his dad had grown up. Still he wasn’t complaining. This room had everything about his father, and his relatives had never talked enough about his father. Luke walked over to all the objects on the shelves. They all looked like they had been built by his dad, and they probably were. He looked at some of the books. They all seemed to be about time travelling and space and science fiction. He supposed that was his dad’s favourite type of book. Luke then walked over to the cupboard, and opened it, expecting it to be full of clothes or toys or something like that. Inside the cupboard was a long, winding staircase that went down and down and down.

Description

Luke climbed down the stairs, wondering what on earth they were for. The stairs went on far longer than they should have if they were going back to the bottom floor. Luke felt like he was now underground. Finally, the staircase ended in a door. Luke couldn’t see much, it was too dark, but the door seemed to have light shining in through the cracks in the edges, like the room behind it was lit up. Luke walked towards the door and reached for the doorknob. Then he stopped. He wondered if he should go into that room. If his dad’s old room was forbidden, then this room definitely was. But still, he turned the doorknob and slowly pushed open the door. Light flooded into the dark room. The room at the end of the staircase was some sort of basement, with a large desk and several machines. On the desk, there were two identical red wheels that seemed to shine in the bright light as though freshly painted. Luke walked over to them. They were identical to the one he had earlier in the room full of broken wood. He noticed they had an inscription; Vincent and Victor Dezmarko. Two names. Both with the same surname as luke. A shiver ran down Luke's spine. Next to the wheels was a strange black box covered in buttons and a screen. Luke had never seen anything like it. Next to that was a jar of strangely shiny black rocks. Luke realised that this must have been what the box was made of. Suddenly a loud beep sounded behind him, making him jump. An enormous computer screen flashed in front of him, prompting him to type in his name. Feeling a wave of excitement, Luke began to type. haha cliffhanger lol (: thanks for reading! please join my writing contest to win over 13 followers! https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/775024777/ also, please join @mitchelldzamko 's contest! https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/775007655/
