This project demonstrates how you can use arpeggio (a broken chord divided into separate tones in a sequence) to give the impression of chords. Click the sound waves to listen to them: ♫ Chord ♫ Arpeggio (1 cycle) ♫ Arpeggio (2 cycles) ♫ Arpeggio (4 cycles) ♫ Arpeggio (8 cycles)
This technique was often used in early computers since the sound cards only could play a few tones simultaneously. But although it was often used to simulate chords, it was also used in a wide variety of creative ways. Listen to some classic C64 music and you'll hear lots of interesting usage :)
