critiques are appreciated but please only critique if you have two or more years of experience in art :) ___ Hiii, it’s a little late but this is a two year art celebration!! Yes, I’ve been drawing with interest for only two years so yeah, I’m pretty much a beginner. :’) In fact, I kinda hated art before then.. more on my personal art journey in the notes and credits of this project!! Now onto the art process. ___ 1. Old Art Ahaha…this is horrendous (￢_￢;) The project can be found here (it was supposed to be @pastryy’s main character as a human): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/438871074/ 2. Sketch So, at first, I was planning to keep the design the same. I also kept the pose the same but changed the expression because—I mean—just LOOK at the original! Also, I tend to do my sketches in red for no particular reason?? I think it’s because LavenderTowne on YT does the same thing. I also change the sketch’s opacity to 34% once I’m done doing it. 3. Lineart I don’t think this needs much explaining. I changed the outfit cause I didn’t like it. The lineart isn’t pure black cause it adds to the mood. 4. Mask How to add a mask: Select the background and everything surrounding your subject using the “magic select” tool. Then, invert your selection area so that your character is selected. Finally, fill the selection with your character’s main color. 5. Base Color + Blush 6. Shading I usually only do one layer of shading but in this case, I did two. It might be a little hard to see though.. quick tip: blend out the shading on clothes; it just looks better. 7. Background 8. Lineart Color I changed the color of the lineart in some areas such as the eyes, where the hair covers the eyes, and random places in the lineart. I do this by attatching a clipping layer to the main lineart layer. 9. Lighting I added a layer with the effect setting to “soft light” and used the airbrush to add yellow lighting. When adding lighting from above, make sure to show the light falling on the cheeks and nose. 10. Version With Black Lineart 11. 2020 to 2022 Comparison I think I have improved a lot over the years and would like to thank all of my friends and inspos for helping me through.
