This is a picture of my rendition of a Selkie, a creature from Celtic mythology. In the original myths say that a Selkie is a being that is a seal in the water and a human on land. They shed their skin when the come out of the water and then hide it so they can change back into it later. If a man stole a Selkie woman's seal skin and hid it or burned it then they would become their wife and be loyal to them but always be longing for the sea. They were said to be good mothers. However, if the Selkie found her skin again she would immediately leave and go back to the ocean, even if she had children. It was sometimes said that the Selkie mother would still visit her human children in the form of a seal afterwards. If you were the child of a Selkie it was said that you could not drown. Also, this was used to explain why some children were born with webbing between their fingers. Male Selkies were said to cause huge sea storms in their anger while the females ((which are more common in myth)) were docile and were very beautiful. I know, this is not how Selkies are supposed to look but this is just how I imagine them, humans with a seal-ish face and whiskers that have webbed fingers and long fingernails. They are seal all the way up to the top of the chest and then it fades into human features. I found some inspiration from StressedJenny on DA. I have always loved Celtic myth. I actually have a majority of Irish and Scottish heritage so I always feel very close to them. I hope you enjoy! It would really mean a lot to me if you dropped me a comment and/or liked it. I spent a lot of time on this one. Also, I am open to talking about more Celtic myth and you can even suggest one that I do next in the comments! I might just do more. ^^ Better Quality Here: http://www.chickensmoothie.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=2793258
