Anyway, a few people have been asking about Shayla and what her backstory is...... sooooooooo i decided to do a short 6 part story about her, and here is the first part: ----------------------------Shayla's story: Chapter 1-------------------------------- Jack sighed as he helped load the large cardboard boxes onto the moving truck. "You would think it would get easier the more we move, but oh no, moving is always as stressful every. signal. time." the 14 year old boy muttered to his dog, Shayla who sat happily panting by the van. Jack sighed at the dog "Why can't everyone be so happily oblivious?" he wondered aloud "'cuz then we'd all be as stupid as you're dumb mutt that you keep talking to" answered his little sister, Faith, who had come with an armful of boxes to be loaded into the van. "She is not dumb! she is the smartest dog i know!" retorted Jack is sourly "Whatever" muttered Faith as the dropped the boxes at his feet and went back into the house to get more. Jack sat down on the grass next to Shayla and stroked her soft fur. doing so always calmed him down "You got half the.. -if not all- neighborhood thinking im crazy, talking to you ... i guess its a good thing we are moving" Jack smiled as he took in the sights. The dog was barking next door at Mr. White's cat as it stood on the fence. Birds where chirping among the tree as a cool breeze rustled the branches. Jack lay down on his back and gazed at the sky. He had no idea how long he had slept before his mother softly shook his shoulder, "Jack, Jack, wake up, what are you doing out here, on the ground? you're supposed to be loading boxes" "uhhhmmm... wha..... " Jack muttered sleepily, but then sat up "Oh yeah, sorry ma, uh, i was just taking a break and... i'll get back to work" he said as he got to his feet. His mom put her hand on his shoulder "No, Faith got them for you... We... we need to talk" Jack frowned, the "we need to talk" line was never good. on the other hand, Faith had done his chores for him, maybe it wasn't so bad, not being an only child. He thought as he walked inside the house. He had to admit, out of all the places he had been this was his favorite. Shayla followed him inside and went to her dog bowls for a drink of water, while Jack followed his mother to the dining room table where she sat down and sighed. Jack tilted his head "what happened? something wrong with the new house?" asked Jack, worried. She replied "Dear... this move is going to be hard on all of us, and, and we all have to make sacrifices for our family... and-" Jack cut her off, anxiety in his eyes "what is it?!" His mother sighed and took his hand in hers "The landlord in the new apartment says.... he says no dogs allowed.." Jack blinked, taking a while to process what he had just heard before the weight of what was just said came crashing down. he stood up "WHAT!?" Jack yelped "We can't leave Shayla! not ever!" "Jack..." started his mother quietly "No!" Jack interrupted "We are NOT leaving Shayla!" he said as he paced around the table "so, so you can just tell the landlord, we ain't gonna live there with no dogs and we can stay here, with Shayla and" Jack stuttered, panicking "It doesn't work that way, sweetie, i can't...." his mother said softly, doing her best to understand what he was going though, she did her best to comfort him "NO!" shouted Jack as he raced upstairs to his room, taking Shayla with him. when he got to the top of the stairs he threw open the door to his room, then slammed it shut behind him. Jack threw himself onto his bed. Shayla invited herself up and lay beside him and let him stroke her fur, then lifted her head to lick his face. Jack flinched at her bad breath but suddenly reached out to hug her. he had had her for 2 years. Jack closed his eyes and remembered when his father had given him Shayla as a Christmas present before he had left.... he missed him... a lot... now more then ever... Jack hugged Shayla tighter "i'll never let anyone take you away" he mumbled into her fur, his stomach tied in knots at the thought of ever leaving her... Shayla didn't know what was going on, but she lay there net to him, unaware of how much things where about to change. TO BE CONTINUED Credits: Drawing drawn on Paint Tool SAI.
