About DART ------------------------------ DART, or Double Asteroid Redirection Test, was a sattelite that slammed into a binary asteroid system, and they chose that system specifically because the main asteroid had a moon named Dimorphos. Didymos was the main asteroid. They slammed the sattelite into Dimorphos to test if they were capable of redirecting the asteroid closer or farther away from Didymos, to protect Earth from getting hit by asteroids in the near future.
