A few more days pass and the females have successfully laid a clutch of 20 eggs; all buried in a hole they dug in the centre of the nest. After that, the matriarch let out a distinctive call, telling her herd to depart the area. In just a few seconds, the bull is the only animal near the nest. Now he has switched into a first time father, finding nearby litter and depositing it into the hole, while scaring off potential predators that could prey upon the eggs. However, the litter he picks up cannot be eaten, which is why he was storing enough nutrients to survive through the incubation process. Many bulls die this way; either from starvation or from predation. A few hundred metres away, an adult male Tyrannosaurus was approaching the nearby lake. This male was accompanied by a much larger female, towering over him in height and weight. The Triceratops began to become incredibly nervous; Tyrannosaurus have been known to try and rob nests if they have the chance. Luckily, the pair was only here for a sip of water at the nearby lake. The male bowed his head down towards the water and began to drink it along with his mate. The Triceratops simply went back to litter picking, plucking a bunch of ferns in his beak.
