In Winston Junior School, the Year 6 pupils were listening to their poor French teacher, Miss Landloff, talk what they thought was nonsense about French verbs. All of a sudden, the drama-addicted headteacher Mr Kints burst into the small room, dragging a small boy with him. He stopped just before he crashed into young Martha Kaynes' desk. Then, he strided (dramatically) to the front of the box-like classroom and pushed the small boy to the front. "Hi children! Are we all having a good day?" Mr Kints smiled, waiting for an enthusiastic answer from the pre-teens. There was no answer. "Never mind! Anyway, children, we have a new student!" "Really?" complained cool boy Danny Hughes. "Great, another weed to waddle around this dump of a school. "Daniel, you know very well that this school does not tolerate that sort of behaviour!" "No I don't," he muttered. His best friend Sam snickered while Mr Kints gave him a glare. "If looks could kill," Sam whispered to Danny. "ANYWAY!" shouted Mr Kints, being as dramatic as usual. "Would anyone like to introduce themselves to Zack Maines? Because I think he would!" Zack nervously stepped forward, with bored, half-asleep kids pretending to be interested in what he was about to say looking at him. "Uh, my name is Zack, and there's something about me that I think is , uh, pretty cool." "Yeah?" A small girl named Tiffany asked at the back. "Yeah. I've come from the future, the year 6072 for a scientific expedition." "Cool!" "Sick!" "Dude, you're not joking, are you?" Danny Hughes asked. Zack was shocked to get a response from this laid-back yet rude cool guy. *BREAKTIME* So many children surrounded Zack that breaktime. "Oh, what is it like in the future?" Martha Kaynes asked. "Do I still exist?" Small transfer student Olar Kuschvey asked. "Is this school still around?" Oliver Marns asked. "Is my house still there?" His sister Kelly Marns asked. But Zack only really wanted to be friends with four people, despite all these admirers. People who he thought were really interesting. Martha Kaynes had to be there of course, she was top of the class (he had looked at the honours list when he was walking past), then there was Sam Knight and Danny Hughes, and a tall girl named Sofia-Michelle Haughtins, who seemed 'not cool' and 'weird' and unpopular. So later that day Zack started talking to Sofia, and invited her, Martha, Danny and Sam round to McDonald's for a meal. They all turned up, Sofia in a taxi, Martha on her bike, Danny was dropped off from his brother's motorcycle and Sam walked (he lived round the corner). They all got to know each other better. It was revealed Martha's grandfather knew Steve Jobs, Danny's hairstyle was inspired by the character Danny's in Grease, Sam's brother was in the Army, and Sofia's aunt worked for a computer company called Scratch (nudge nudge wink wink). Beep! Beep! "Oh, that's my mother. She'll be wondering where I am". Sofia picked up her phone and started talking to her mum. "What," Zack asked, "are you doing?" "She's receiving a call from her phone from her mum, and she answered it." Martha informed him. Zack received a moment of realisation. "Oh yeah! I read about mobile phones before I left." "What, so you don't have them in the future?" "Oh no, we can just send messages to people in our brains. We can even WhatsApp group chat in our brains. It gives you a headache after, though." "Cool!" Martha said. "Sounds nice, but I don't think I could live without my phone. I mean, how would you play Flappy Bird? I bet they don't have iPads either." Sofia slammed her phone down and turned it off. "Geez, Sofia, what was that for?" Sam asked. "My mum yelled at me because I forgot to tell her that I was going to buy her a birthday present." "Woah. I thought they were supposed to be SURPRISES." Danny chipped in. "Yeah, so did I." Sofia agreed. "She's crazy." *A WEEK LATER* Two robots appeared out of nowhere, in a small village just to the west of North Walsham, in the early hour of 3:00 am. "Must find Zachary Maines." "Must find Zachary Maines." The robots said, and marched off into the direction of Sam's house, where Zack was staying. *IN SAM'S HOUSE* Sam and Zack slumped down the stairs, tired from last night. Once Sam's parents had gone to sleep, they had secretly got up and had a pillow fight. They finally settled down at about 4:30, so they were very tired. "Hi, grumpy heads! What would two very tired boys want for breakfast?" Sam's mother asked. "I'll have some Weetabix please, Kath." "I'll have some Honey Cheerios please, mum." Suddenly, the door was hit. Sam's father jumped at the sound, which made his newspaper go into his tea. "Oops!" "Stop messing about, Graham!" Sam's mother complained to him. "I'll get the door." Sam's dad opened the door when two robots marched in and grabbed Zack. "Sorry about this! I was only allowed to stay here a few days! Bye!" "Well, he only stayed a short time!" said Sam.
