Leko Icy came up with a new shape for /ɑ/ in LI-Unifon. The uppercase letterform is just like the old letterform, but it is more recognizable as an A in LI-Unifon. The lowercase form still has a horizontal line on the top, but it is very easy to write due to being written in one stroke.
