Scarlett's POV -- I sat silently in the darkness, my face illuminated by the rays coming from my phone as I read and reread Victoria's messages. She should have been here an hour ago. Was it a mistake? Or had she ditched me? I sighed amid the chirp of crickets as I got up from the bench and stretched, my muscles tight after waiting for hours. It had been the same for weeks, her making and spontaneously canceling plans. And this wasn't even mentioning how she had chosen to leave home a summer camp across the country, obviously to learn the secrets to be popular and flirt with boys from her 'besties'. The biggest change, though, had come with a blow for me as she came back with her chocolate brown hair dyed blonde, her hair cut in a wolf cut with the hottest bangs. I'm not sure why I blushed when I saw her though. Me and Victoria have always been the best of friends, but there was nothing more between us.. and certainly nothing less. My thoughts are interrupted with the loudest growl I've ever heard from my stomach. Oh, gods, I'm hungry. I check my pockets for any food or even money to buy something to keep my stomach satisfied till I go home for dinner but I come up with nothing but a nickel and a lollipop wrapper. So much for that. Suddenly, though, I hear footsteps. I lean forward eagerly, a smile threatening to play on my lips. Is it Victoria? But the footsteps are so much faster, much like the person is running away from something than leisurely strolling towards me.
