Something about them just seemed so strange. Maybe it was the way they didn’t tell her until class was over. Maybe it was because they reminded Carly of herself. The next morning, Carly was heading to her classroom when she saw 3 boys standing around Sebastian. They were yelling horrible things at Sebastian. “You have to be a girl!” “Don’t lie to us!” “You’re so gay!” Sebastian saw Carly and bolted past the boys. They ran into the classroom. The boys turned around and saw Carly. The smug expressions melted off their faces like ice in the summer heat. She led them to the front office as she watched the panicked expressions on their faces. After that, she went back to her classroom. Sebastian sat quietly at their desk. They showed no signs of what had just happened to them. Carly wondered if there was anything she didn’t know about them. After class, she asked them about the boys in the hallway. “They do that every day,” replied Sebastian, looking sheepishly at the ground. Carly couldn’t believe it. She still couldn’t sleep that night.
