By the time we arrived at the front of the line, the place was almost empty. Ezra grinned at us from behind the counter, clearly exhausted but putting on a good show. “What can I do for you three?” Raza examined the candies on display. “What’s the Full Moon special?” Ezra smiled. “Just a little something Epifano cooked up. Dried Wolf fruit, covered with white chocolate with dark chocolate shavings on top." Raza’s eyes widened and he nodded vigorously. “One bag of that please." “I’d like one too,” Shadow said softly. “Make that three,” I told Ezra, grinning. He returned the smile. “Coming right up." A minute or so later, he slid the three bags across the counter. “6 gold total, please." Shadow looked at me. “You sure you’re good-" “Yeah, I’ll pay, it’s fine,” I said, cutting her off and handing Ezra the gold coins. “Thank you!” Raza called, grabbing his bag and running out the door. “No problem. See you soon,” Ezra replied, turning to the next batch of customers. Shadow and I followed Raza outside, and we ran to the square. The square was a lively place, with storefronts lining the cobblestone circle, a crystal clear fountain in the center of it all. There were a few market stalls scattered about, and I located The Cauldron pretty quickly. The three of us sat down to eat our candy, scouring out an open spot on the fountain. As we ate, we watched the busy square ebb and flow with people running in and out of shops. Shadow ran home to say hi to her mom, while Raza and I went inside the cauldron. Mr. Smith, a middle-aged man who was Welsburry’s local craftsman, had just ordered and waved at us on his way out. “Hello, boys,” Mom called from behind the counter. “Hi, Mom,” we chorused in unison. Raza went over to look through the “monthly specials” shelf, while I walked over to the counter. “Need any help?” I asked. Mom shook her head, smiling tiredly. “Nope, I’m good here. Thanks for offering, though.” I nodded, and read a potion bottle’s label that had caught my eye. “Vitanic?” Mom nodded. “Yep. A life potion. Basically a Vitania’s power in a bottle. You do know what that is, right?” I nodded. “Yep. One of my friends is one." An elderly couple came in, followed by a few students from WSoM, and Raza and I took that as our cue to leave. “Race you home!” Raza yelled as soon as we were out. “Let me win for once!” I yelled in return. He was nice. He did.
