“Do Chaiyn and Maya have anywhere to go for Spring Break?” I looked up at Raza’s question. “I don’t know,” I answered after a pause. “Do you think they’d want to come over to Welsburry if they don’t?” I thought for a moment, then smiled. “Yeah. Yeah, I think they would.” Raza returned the smile. “Can we go ask them?” I nodded and closed the book I was studying from. “Sure.” Raza won the race down there, obviously. Chaiyn was sitting cross-legged on the table, reading a midnight-purple covered book. “You know, ‘know’ has a k in front of it. At least, I assume that’s what you meant since ‘now’ makes absolutely no sense in that sentence,” he called up to his sister, who was sitting on top of the highest bookshelf - the one with the hourglass - and writing in another notebook of the same color. “Well, Father never wanted anything to do with me, so I apologize for not learning how to spell,” Maya called back tauntingly. A stray pencil flew up in her direction, but she caught it and threw it back, just barely missing Chaiyn’s head. Raza ducked under the curtain of vines and I followed him inside. “We have a question!” Raza semi-yelled. Chaiyn laughed - that was a nice sound - and smiled at my little brother. “And that is?” “Do you have any plans for Spring Break?” Raza asked. Chaiyn swallowed and glanced up at Maya. “Sort of? We’re planning on visiting our mother for a bit, but other than that, we don’t have much,” he answered. “You offering something?” Now that both Darkedge siblings were giving Raza attention, he seemed to deflate a little. He looked at me. “Um, yeah?” I laughed. “Would you want to come visit Welsburry?” Chaiyn and Maya exchanged glances. A small smile spread across Chaiyn’s face, completely contrasting the wide grin on Maya’s face. “Yeah. Yeah, we can come,” he said. That year, Spring Break started on April twenty-fourth. At around eleven fifteen in the morning, the seven of us were on the train home. Shadow, Raza and I were going to Welsburry Village, Naomi was going to her hometown, Petersville, and Brazen, Harlow, and Calli were going to Maybell. Calli was staying with Brazen and Harlow for the week. Raza and I had confirmed with Chaiyn and Maya that the siblings would show up around the twenty-seventh. Unlike usual, Calli stayed on the train as Woodville’s stop rolled around, instead getting off a few stops later with Brazen and Harlow at Maybell. Petersville was only two stops away from Welsburry, so I didn’t have to say goodbye to Naomi until I was almost home. “Welsburry Village, last stop,” the conductor called. Raza, Shadow, and I stood, grabbed our small amount of luggage, and walked out of the train. “Race you to Sweets Galore!” Raza yelled at the top of his small lungs, already sprinting down the path. Shadow and I exchanged a small smile and ran after my little brother. The three of us skidded to a stop outside of Epifano’s candy shop, Sweets Galore. I opened the door and held it open for Shadow and Raza, the latter of which just managed to catch his glasses before they fell off his face. There was a huge mob of people inside, and after asking around a bit, we found the end of the “line”, also known as a semi-organized blob. I scanned the crowd packed inside the small candy shop. I spotted a few people I recognized - one group consisted of Samie, Ally, and three people that almost no one knew their real names, only their nicknames - Star, Willow, and Z. There were more people, too - Jack, Charles, and Luke, and others I didn’t recognize.
