Waterfall was the Queen Coral's sister's daughter. Her mother was Seastar, Queen Coral's youngest sister. One day, Waterfall's aunt, and Coral's eldest sister, Duchess Dragonfish snuck into her mother's chambers and attacked her. She stabbed her in a the head and swam away. Waterfall confronted Dragonfish, and her aunt threw her off a cliff. She survived, but had to go into hiding because the SkyWings attacked the Summer Palace soon after that. When she was sleeping in a cave near the coast, a RainWing with firescales who was visiting the Summer Palace during the attack sought shelter and stumbled upon Waterfall. She said her name was Wildfire and Waterfall let her stay with her. They soon fell in love, and lived together in the cave. But Waterfall didn't realize that Wildfire had stolen her earring one night. One day, Waterfall realized that Wildfire's red earing actually was Waterfall's old earring and it had turned a bright green, and she thought she saw a strange green dragon in the reflection with two other dragons who didn't resemble any of the tribes she knew. Wildfire noticed and snuck out while Waterfall was sleeping. Waterfall went after her and yelled at her for leaving and stealing her earing. Wildfire then explained that she shared a soul with a LeafWing from the lost continent, Pantala. She wasn't able to control it when she first realized it. She had stolen Waterfall's earring and paid an animus in hiding to enchant it for her, and she was able to control her switching. Waterfall demanded her to show her what it could do. Wildfire tapped the earring and it started shooting electric green sparks. Her whole body turned green and her wings turned leafy. Waterfall could tell that her gender had changed too, as for the deepness in his voice. She had become a LeafWing, and that LeafWing's home was in danger.
