The PlayStation 3 is a console that was way ahead of its time being more powerful than the Xbox 360 its main competitor even the modern PC (for back then) could not compete with how powerful this console was and it was able to do Blu Ray and DVD's as well as CD's and was backwards compatible with both PS2 and PS1 games; however, with its great power came drawbacks. It was so expensive to make these parts to the point they had to price their console very high at $599 compared to the Xbox 360 and it's $399. And how the console marketing strategy works today is they make the consoles that cost around more than what they were selling the console for, depending on how powerful it is, and make their money off the games that they sell but they couldn't make it so cheap that they couldn't earn their money back. so for the entire console generation the Xbox 360 would remain supreme but they suffered an issue that was called the red ring of death so people had to get risky and either buy the most powerful console for a high price or buy a console that had slightly more games but could break very easily and the Wii having almost no problems at all it was a really big back and forward battle until the end of the generation.
