Oleander ˙ Part One (out of four) The Loner Heronstar followed her loyal deputy, Burningeyes, across camp. He continued berating her with his worries about their alliance with Skyclan. "Because Jackalstar isn't exactly the kind of person you want standing behind you in a battle, don't you think?" Heronstar silenced him with a wave of her tail, "Burningeyes, you would do well to take Littleriver's advice. After all, she is the one carrying your kits" Burningeyes laughed good naturedly but said nothing. Heronstar glanced across the clearing, "if you would excuse me" she said with a dip of her head. Burningeyes did the same and they parted. Her friend Siltwind wobbled towards her, her midsection swollen to almost twice it's normal size. "What did Silverwing say?" She asked with concern for her friend. Siltwind exhaled softly and sat, "Well, the kits aren't due quite yet, but they're certainly getting big." Heronstar laughed, but there was a twinge of melancholy to it. She had never had a mate, and there was no sign of motherhood in her future. But jealousy had never stopped her from being excited for her friend, so she plastered on a warm smile. "That's great Siltie. Would you give my regards to Flashfur?" She said, by way of excusing herself. Siltwing nodded and bid her farewell as Heronstar retreated ot her den. Slowly, her worries ceased as she was able to let her eyes close, if only for a little while. "Heronstar! Burningeyes! Come quick!" Called an apprentice. The bluish gray cat looked panicked as they raced into the camp. Heronstar recognized them as Mintpaw, and quickly was able to get the story out of them. A loner had been spotted on the boundary, begging to be let in. He said he needed someone who knew of StarClan, so he could be given guidance. Heronstar immediatly raised her guard. Loners could not be trusted. But something in her gut compelled her to be the one to go investigate. It was on this fateful day that she first met Oleander.
