Barrels spawn every 6 seconds (can be upgraded) in upper right corner. Press on the barrel to take it in your hand. Press on the empty place with a barrel in your hand to place it. Press on the barrel with a same barrel in your hand to merge them into better barrel. Buy upgrades for scrap that you've got from barrels, and get even more scrap. If you merge many times, you will be able to level up. It awards you magnets.
