Around a week passed, which was mostly packed with studying and interactions with other students. My friends and I still went down to the woods, though not as often. With Chaiyn’s curse lifted, it felt like a huge weight had been taken off of our shoulders. The Tuesday after the climax of Chaiyn’s story, Raza ran into me - not literally, thankfully, that kid could most definitely knock me over - at the end of the day. “What have you been doing outside the past week? I’ve watched you go down to the woods almost every day and at one point the shadowy area was gone. What happened?” He asked in his usual way of bombarding me. So I gave him the semi-run down version of the past month or so. I have to admit, Raza was a good listener. The only comment he had when I was done was, “Can I come if you’re going today?” I had nothing better to do with my free time today, so I said yes. He and I raced down towards the Seer’s lair, and Raza won. No surprises there. I pulled aside the curtain of vines and Raza walked in. He stopped cold in the entrance and gawped at the rows and rows of bookshelves. As hyper as my little brother was, he was a huge bookworm and loved to read. As my brother gawked in the doorway, I looked over at the Darkedge siblings. Maya was perched on top of a bookshelf - she’d graduated from the lowest one to a slightly taller one, flipping through a notebook with a turquoise colored cover. Chaiyn was sitting on the table in the center of the clearing, leaning against the tallest bookshelf - the one that held the now empty hourglass. Chaiyn was the first to notice us. “Hey, Wolf. Your brother decided to come along today?" Elena looked up at the word ‘brother.’ “Oh. Hi. You must be Raza." Raza blinked and nodded, focusing on the conversation again. “Yeah. I’m Raza. How did- oh right. Sight-Seer.” He grinned his impish grin. “I’ve always wanted to meet a Seer." Chaiyn smiled, his blue eyes sparkling in the light - something I still wasn’t used to. “Congrats, you’re the first person to realize I’m a Seer before finishing that question. Anyway, welcome to the Cur- actually, I don’t have a name for this anymore, so just welcome,” he said with a shrug. “I’m Chaiyn, as you most likely know." “I’m Maya,” Elena said, closing the notebook and tossing it to Chaiyn, who caught it and placed it next to him. “That’s new,” I said. “Which do you want to be called now? Elena or Maya?" She thought for a moment, then shrugged. “I really don’t care at this point, as long as that one,” she threw a stray writing utensil at Chaiyn’s head, who swatted it away as if it were a fly, “doesn’t call me Elena again.” Chaiyn nodded and smiled sheepishly. “How many times do I have to apologize?” Raza turned a cartwheel and landed on the ground by a bookshelf. Maya giggled and I laughed. Chaiyn glanced up, amused. “Can I read one of these?” Raza asked, standing up and dusting himself off as if nothing had happened. Chaiyn nodded. “Green one with an /R/. See how accurate that is, Speeder." Raza grinned and pulled the book down. “Speaking of Speeders, what powers do you two have, besides Mr. Seer here?” He asked while reading. “Just a Shade and a Sight-Seer over here,” Chaiyn replied, writing something in another turquoise notebook. Maya frowned slightly. “Um, okay, I’m a Shade, a Splasher, a… an Animalia, and a Sifter…? Maybe?” She looked over to her brother. Chaiyn laughed lightly. “Shade, Splasher, Animalia, /Shifter/, not Sifter, a Glower, and a Memoria.” Chaiyn looked up as Raza’s jaw dropped. “Yeah, she’s got a lot of powers.” “Are you in the power club?” Was Raza’s only response as he continued leafing through the notebook. Maya and I shook our heads in unison. “Nope. What’s the power club?” She asked. I explained what it was, leaning against a tree by the entrance. By the time I’d finished, Maya’s eyes were brighter than the sun. She looked at her brother. “Please can I do it, please, please, please?” Chaiyn laughed. “If Professor Brooks says yes, then I have no problem." I grinned. “I’ll ask later today or tomorrow. You should be able to come tomorrow." Maya grinned and clapped. “Yay! I think I’ll do Animalia because none of your friends are one,” She mused. Raza closed the notebook he was reading. “All accurate, but there’s a few missing details. Did you know I was a Speeder all along?" The Sight-Seer nodded. “Yep. I saw you in the woods and saw your aura." Raza’s eyes widened and he looked at me. “Can I be a Sight-Seer?" I smiled, and was going to crack a joke, but then caught a glimpse of the flash of guilt in Chaiyn’s eyes. “No, sorry, you’ve gotta stay a fast little kid,” I said instead, ruffling Raza’s hair. Raza pouted, and Chaiyn smiled at me for a second to send his thanks. The dinner bell rang, and my brother and I raced up to the school. He let me win.
