¡Hola! Here we are with my last contest entry (well, let’s be serious, I’m never gonna stop entering contests) for… maybe a few days? I actually have a few things to draw as of right now that are unrelated to contests so I might actually stop for a bit lol. (Wait no nevermind it’s for my own contest lol- I can never escape contestsssss ;-;) But anyhoo, onto the art itself. So, I wanted to get a ‘cute’ pose that captured the youthful and pastel aesthetic of the character provided, and this design just sort of popped into my head so naturally I drew it, and I somehow did not use any reference. Of course, my happiness over the pose diminished when I not only realized how freaking weird her fingers and the foreshortening on her legs looked, but that I would have to design a whole freaking background for her. Which then led to the very late night in which I frantically tried my best to create an idea, bedroom for her, complete with wall stickers, a BTS poster and some motivational statements, and of course lots of pastel colors and fairy lights. But dear lord that was h—l to render and I have still not fully recovered, which is why instead of wasting more time trying to make both the bed/character look like they had the same level of rendering as the rest of the piece I just blurred the background and slapped some effects overtop. Boom. I was initially having a lot of trouble with the toning of the piece, while I did use very nice and soft colors this meant that without the proper overlays, the art itself looked very grayish and drab. But that doesn’t seem like a big problem, right? Wrong. I cannot express how annoying it was to find the correct color to use for the overlay (I think I settled on some pink/reddish mix eventually), but it was worth it when she stopped looking like I’d used dusty blue shading all over her (which I mean I did, but that’s not the point). So yeah, here’s my entry. I hope you like it, and I’m sorry for how malformed Xingxing’s ear turned out to be. Hasta luego~ -Lawn
