I have been waiting for so long to make this chapter. I came up with Skunktail’s backstory shortly after I posted Chapter 3. Skunktail was originally going to be a lot similar to Poisonfang in personality, but then I thought it’d be cooler to have him be more anxious than grumpy. And then I thought up the backstory for him that we see here in this chapter. For anyone who’s wondering about Skunktail’s family beyond his mother, he has no littermates, BUT he wasn’t Starrysky’s first kit. Starrysky and her mate had another litter before Skunktail, but they were all stillborns. As for Skunktail’s father, he died from battle wounds roughly a week before Skunktail was born. Before anyone mentions it, yes, I know I messed up Skunktail’s paw on Panel 40. I forgot about the fact that his paws have white fur. Also, in case anyone is wondering, both Skunktail and Lemontongue are apprentices at the time that the flashback portion of the chapter takes place And no, that was not a Friends reference at the end there. It’s just a coincidence.
