Original advert link: https://youtu.be/BATuk2YDkUs - Click on the car, press the space bar or use your arrow keys to look around the moderately short lived, yet popular facelift model of the famous 6N Polo. Click on the advertisement to silence it. Click on the little music icon in the corner to silence the buzz sound effect. - The 6N Polo was looking a bit dated by the late 90s, so Volkswagen gave it a facelift that modernised the exterior, whilst maintaining that classic Polo style, and gave it a new interior with a dashboard grabbed out of the Lupo. Trim levels were better equipped, now featuring full-width wheel trims apposed to the centre caps previously available, driver and passenger airbags, ABS and power steering. These standard features, as well as a stiffened (& galvanized) chassis helped it become a safer car too. 'E' was the entry level model, manual windows, black trim, steel wheels, no foglights or central locking. However it was well built and reliable so sold well. 'S' was slightly better equipped, larger wheels and painted trim helped it look a little more modern and sportier, but the 'SE' was as high you could go before getting into the sportier trim levels. Although air conditioning and a CD player were options, it was equipped well enough to give certain larger cars a run for their money, and the optional leather was a touch of luxury, too. The next trim level up was the '16V', some would call it the poor man's GTI, however it doesn't really stop it from being sporty enough to have a bit of fun down the back roads. It was well equipped too, 15" alloy wheels and air conditioning were more than enough for the early 2000's consumer... However, if you wanted more than enough there was always the 125PS GTI. Alright, it might not have been as fast as a Golf, or as mad as a Lupo, but it was more fun than it seems at first. Generous equipment, an engine quite ridiculous for something as big as a yoga mat, the reliable Polo base... I could go on, but the 6N2 Polo GTI was, as the brochure stated, the birth of a legend. The successor, the 9N Polo was just as good, better, in fact. If not a bit 'ugly' to some, but the Polo has gone through a few of generations since 1999 and is still as popular as ever, 23 years since the 6N2, and 47 years since the original in 1975. - In 2021, my brother got a 2000 (W) Volkswagen Polo E 1.0 and it's been... It's been a struggle. It hasn't been the most reliable, though it's the car he learnt to drive in and it got him to and from work plenty of times... before a few days ago (as to when I'm writing this). The engine refused to start, it's been a common occurrence for a few months but that was the final straw. I got a call from my brother, "I want a 09 reg and up car that will be reliable and isn't a Peugeot." And that was it. He came back and we looked for cars (no Peugeot's unfortunately), and by the day after he got a new car... Which is quite exciting, I'll reveal it once I've finished drawing it. It's bittersweet really, it was a good learning car but it's time to move onto something better! So with that... Anyone fancy a Polo? Part service history and a full set of universal hubcaps!
