{[ Hello there! It's me, Dragon, here with some ✨content✨ ]} { I feel like it's a crime that I don't make that much Wings of Fire stuff, given that it's my all-time favorite book series (angry gay dragons, what more could you ask for /j), and so here's the Hybrid Challenge! } { If you're not familiar with the rules, here they are: you use a random number generator to pick two of the ten dragon tribes, and then you make a hybrid of the two. Pretty simple lol } { Click on the dergens to proceed :3 } { also be prepared for a lot of random rambling because I'm going to headcanon the crap outta this } {}{}{} 1 }{ HiveWing, RainWing Here he is! I keep forgetting that things look brighter on my phone, so he looks pretty dull here lmbo - anyway, you can see he's got the spike in the middle of his face from his HiveWing parent, and the ear frills and fangs from his RainWing parent! Yes, you may have noticed that I'm not doing detailed scales or complying completely to the graphics in the books, but, like, I don't care. I will never be able to replicate all those scales, and my headcanon tribe designs fit my art style, so. I named him Leafcutter, because all Hivewings are named after 'bugs' (by which I mean spiders, insects and apparently worms), and leafcutter ants live in the rainforest! 2 }{ SilkWing, SeaWing Hummingbird, my man! I replaced the SeaWing barbels with Silkwing antennae, and you can see he's got gills (albeit fluffy ones) and shiny scales from his SeaWing parent. And I gave him the fancy schmancy Silkwing eyelash-thingies that I completely made up lmbo Yes, my headcanon SilkWings are fluffy - more based on moths than butterflies. First off, I believe only moths spin silk. Also, SilkWings make cocoons. And fun fact: *only* moths make cocoons (and by extent, *only* a butterfly can make a chrysalis). Also I like fluffy dragons ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ SilkWings are always named after moths and butterflies, so he's named after the hummingbird hawk moth! He doesn't look like the moth, but he does look like a ruby-throated hummingbird, so he has an excuse to be named after the hummingbird while still technically having a SilkWing name. 3 }{ HiveWing, SkyWing Angery- I mean, HiveWings and SkyWings have basically the same color scheme, so not too difficult. I don't really have much to say about this one. I named her Dragonfly because they are very good fliers (like SkyWings). That's it. Actually, fun fact, I normally give my WoF OCs names in other languages (following the example of the canon dragon Hvitur, which I believe means 'white' in Icelandic, so plus points for language creativity but minus points for naming a dragon 'white' lol), but because I didn't feel like going into WordReference (or moons forbid Google Translate) they're all in English. 4 }{ IceWing, NightWing And here we have an IceNight who's emo enough to give Winter a run for his money! As you can see, they're a mind reader (remember that only mind readers have teardrop scales!!!! everytime I see Clearsight drawn with teardrop scales a part of me dies-) and have an ✨edgy haircut✨ Yes, I give IceWings fur. Why? Because lots of spikes is a very good way to lose heat and freeze to death. And if you're about to go like, 'but Dragon, IceWings can survive the cold, it's okay!' then let me tell you that the reason that they can survive in the cold should be because they have adaptations to do it! In a freezing environment fur is infinitely preferable to a bunch of protruding spikes. Anyway, their name is Cavern because I have no creativity ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 5 }{ LeafWing, Silkwing Eek I accidentally drew her tiny- Anyway, here we have the lovely Olive with those weird scattered Leafwing scales and stripey horns (because I can't draw the flat horns lol). Also leafy antennae because it's cute hehe Olive is not a butterfly but it's a tree and it's also cute, so there. 6 }{ SandWing, SeaWing Look at xir beard, it's beautiful- In all seriousness, we have the SeaWing gills and shiny scales, the barbels replaced with fur, and the Sandwing snout where the nose-cap-thing extends to xir chin as well. SandWings also have fur in my opinion, because camels have fur to a) act as natural sunscreen and b) keep them warm because believe it or not the sandy desert is very cold at night. And I thought, 'well, if it works for camels, it's also an excuse to give dragons funky hairstyles!'. Seashell, because... uh... seashells come from the sea, but you find them in... the sand...? I think Shore(line) or Beach would've been a better name, but too late now lol 7 }{ MudWing, IceWing Snowbank is the name of an IceMud in a WoF fanfiction I wrote in, like, third grade. (I should post my old Warriors and WoF fanfictions here sometime so we can all cringe at them together, lol - I wrote a Warriors one when I was eight and it's the most horrifying thing I have ever looked back on.) I don't have much to say about this one. She has purple blood.
<< also, I give AMAB IceWings cheek fur, so I replaced it with spikes for her. 8 }{ RainWing, SeaWing I... really hate how this turned out tbh. My phone didn't tell me the colors clashed, and she looks too much like a RainWing. I know there are canon hybrids who look a lot more like one tribe than the other, but I feel like the point of the challenge is to, like... mix them. Anyway, her SeaWing traits include gills, fins, and that little stripe on her nose which is a trademark of my SeaWing designs. Also glow scales, but they kinda just look like more RainWing markings. Her RainWing characteristics are basically everything else, but she doesn't have the protruding fangs. Octopus is another name from that really old fanfiction. Another SeaRain, obviously, because octopi can change their color and so can RainWings. Speaking of color, I did that thing I do where I use canon RainWing color-to-emotion charts to pick a color scheme that fits the character :D ...Why.... why does it look like a teal dragon who's wearing a Peril face mask tho 9 }{ SandWing, LeafWing I feel like people tend to forget that a lot of LeafWings have brown scales! I'm not usually a huge fan of the brown-and-cream color scheme, but I feel like it worked well enough here. He's got the SandWing fur and snoot thingy, with Leafwing scales and horns. Cacti are a desert plant, so the name was kinda self-explanatory. Also I have a specific SandWing eye design, but I headcanon it to be a recessive trait so it's likely that only purebred SandWings (or their hybrid grandchildren, but not their hybrid children because genetics is weird like that) have the trait. So it doesn't appear in any of these designs (except a little bit, I guess, in Seashell's design). 10 }{ SkyWing, MudWing The last one! I don't really love how this design turned out to be honest, but it's not as bad as number 8 lol. Anyway, I don't have much to say here. She's got the cheek spike I give to SkyWings and LeafWings. Also, I've wanted to name a SkyMud Copper for a while now, so here she is. {}{}{} That's all! First time in a very long time I've run out of description space, lol. Art }{ Me! Challenge }{ Dragonsheep Studios on YouTube Concept }{ Wings of Fire book series by Tui. T. Sutherland {}{}{} If you haven't read the series, I highly recommend it! It's a bit violent, but it looks elysian compared to Warriors, so if you've read that you should be fine. Oh, and if you decide to read it, please for your own sake do NOT start with the graphic novels. Read the novels first; the graphic adaptations mess everything up and miss plot points and it's just better to read the original series before you go poking around in that abyss. Also you can slap a /lh tag on this whole project because I just realized there are places where I might sound kinda angry haha fun fact: dragons are my favorite animal, followed by cats, wolves, birds (songbirds, raptors, corvids) , griffins, dogs, tatzelworms, foxes, and rodents (rats and mice, squirrels, jerboas) anyway, my username is my top three and always has been hehe
