Sun, earth and star elves, humans, sirens, and miscellaneous dwarves and gnomes lived in harmony. Dragons, beasts and creatures of the night were banished from its borders, and everything any visitors were permitted to see was glittering and flawless. Except for the Inopia. The Inopia was the name of the slums on the outskirts of the nation. Here, large houses were inhabited by small families, small houses were inhabited by large families, the streets were filled with the ones without a roof over their heads, and poverty was abundant. Yes, this was Calytrix's world. Of course, if Calytrix was seen outside of her house, she'd be thrown to the Royal Guards and never seen again. Why, you ask? She had the Beluanima. The Beluanima is when someone is born with a second, parasitic spirit attached to their consciousness. This spirit will feed off of this person's emotions and spirit until there's nothing left of them, at which point the spirit will control their body. Because of this, when someone is born with a Beluanima, they will be taken away and never seen again. The rules, however, are a little looser around the Inopia, where laws matter a little less and it's easy to tuck a child away in a big, old, cold house until you can slap an eyepatch on their unnaturally-colored eye. Calytrix grew up afraid to step outside. Her parents took in a lot of people. Some stayed forever, others only for the night. Calytrix was locked in a closet that had a secret passage leading to a small room where she lived until she was eleven, when her parents gave her an eyepatch and started training her to control her Beluanima. By the time she was fourteen, her parents had turned her into an efficient assassin who could successfully control her Beluanima. They'd instilled a deep fear of failure to control her Beluanima and told her it was directly related to her emotions. If she rebelled against them, it would take control and kill everyone she loved, they lied. Calytrix was sent to find and kill a certain noble family through using her Beluanima and steal their money. She succeeded. The family continued to use her and spread the wealth among the Inopia, which was quickly becoming one of the richest parts of Primumsuam. Until Calytrix disappeared. She'd been hearing an awful voice in her head... One that told her to kill more and more, that screamed at her when she slept... Her Beluanima was coming for her... Calytrix ran away, out of the Inopia, attacking anyone who dared oppose her, until she came upon the highest mountain in Primumsuam. She climbed and climbed, and reached the top. She looked down upon the nation and wailed in grief. Now she could clearly see the damage that had been done to everything. She entered a cave, and found it was silent. A peace came over her. Through a year of meditation, Calytrix came to terms with her Beluanima and understood finally that there was nothing for it. She must stay here, in her secluded cave, or the Beluanima that she'd fed for years with blood and death and pain and fear would take control and destroy everything she loved. And then the travelers came. "You are part of a prophecy..." "Our group needs you..." "For the whole nation, please come..." What could she do? What should she do?
